July 29, this year, players of US PGA Tour found a lot of classical courses. And some can be called as jewel hidden in the world. This week, they also will head for a world-class course: Old White Course of Greenbrier. This course owns much distinct features, for example, the last hole was a par three.
The top players can't be familiar any more to the classic course like Augusta and Pebble Beach. Every year, it will hold games there. This year's British Open was held in St. Andrews. And it wasn't strange to us. However, some other courses are very unfamiliar to us such as Aronimink Golf Club of outskirts of Philadelphia. This course hosted US PGA Championships because Congressional Coutry Club would prepare for 2011 US Open. Therefore, US AT&T Championship had no choice but to move out from Washington. But players participating in AT&T Championship gave a very high score to the Aronimink Golf Club. And they think this course had very great possibility to hold a Grand Slam.
This week, Greenbrier Old White Course perhaps would walked out from hibernation for it will host the first Greenbrier Classic. Old White Course was designed and built by Charles Blair Macdonald. In the 1930s, Seth Raynor refitted it, while in 2006, Lester George overhauled it again. Golfers will find greens are very undulating and the designs of bunker is very interesting.
"Elegance, I guess we lack of a better vocabulary to describe it. So this world is just what we want to find." Slugger White, PGA Tour referee who has golfed for many times in the Greenbrier, said:"Here, we can see the tall fescue grown beside of sandpit, Biarritz greens with grooves in the middle, Redan, and many things that we seldom see in the ordinary days".
In addition, Old White Course was one of a few courses with a ending hold as a par three. "We finished in the par three. Match must be very interesting. This course is pretty beautiful. I figured out that it was a transition," Boo Weekley said.
