Will he be regarded as the greatest player? Will he be regarded as the most dominant player? Will he become the largest crash of sports? Will he possess the above three? In a word, all of questions rolled into one question: How should we appraise a golfer's greatness?

 

Just according to the dominance of a period, we doubtlessly focused on Bobby Jones, Hogan, Tom Morris and Tiger Woods. Just in the 8 years, Bobby Jones won 13 Grand Slams, including sweeping across four Majors in a season. From 1950 to 1953, Ben Hogan won 6 games of 9 matchees. Tom Morris continually won four British Open from 1868 to 1872.(In 1871, British Open didn't be held.) If in1875, he didn't pass away, he would win 8 to 10 British Open. Caution: that was the only major in the golf sport.

Considering the length of profession, "Golden bear" can't be comparable. In 1962, 22-year-old Nicklaus won his first Grand Slams. In 1986, at the age of 46, he won the last one. During 25 years, Nicklaus won 115 champions in the world including 73 titles of US PGA Tour.

 

Although Nicklaus didn't monopolize in a period of time like Tiger Woods, Ben Hogan, and Bobby Jones. But he has been glorious for at least 18 years. This was a very amazing number. Setting Nicklaus and Tiger Woods aside, the other top player in the history won Majors almost in the 5 to 8 years.

 

There exists two standards: one is the golfer who forestalled in a short time; the other was the shiny golfer in his career. Nicklaus belonged to the latter. The others belongs to the former.
