The next stop on the PGA Tour schedule is the Humana Challenge. The Tour leaves Hawaii and makes its way to the mainland for the beginning of the West Coast swing. The Humana Challenge is working in conjunction with the William J. Clinton Foundation to focus on health and wellness challenges. I could make a political joke here at Mr. Clinton's expense, but I'll cut him a break. After all, he does like to golf; at least we agree on that.

Sometimes you or I may tire of playing the same course three or four days in a row. I would guess that the professional players experience the same feelings. In the Humana Challenge, as well as some other tournaments, the players get to play multiple courses. I imagine that this is fun for the professionals. Now their amateur partners in the Humana Challenge might wish that they could play the same course each of the three days so that they might gain some confidence.

Another nice aspect of the multiple course format is that perhaps one course doesn't set up as well for a player as the other courses. There might also be one or two holes on a course that just don't suit a player's eye. With a rotation of courses, each player is likely to find a course that he really likes. Of course, the venues for the Humana Challenge are not terribly difficult. In 2011, the Nicklaus course and the Palmer course were two of the three easiest layouts on the PGA Tour. It would seem that you do not need to be a scratch golfer to make the occasional birdie in this tournament. Every amateur in the field is grateful for this.
